Literature Text

I run down the hallway as metal objects tear at my clothes, but I keep pressing on. What I wouldn't give to get out of here. My eyes have already adjusted to the darkness, but the passageways are littered with trash, turned over tables, thrown chairs, and broken windows. It is early in January, and the cold air surrounds me in a thick blanket. I stop for a moment. I have reached a dead end, and instantly I shiver. The light flickers above me, sometimes casting an eerie glow. My arms instinctively wrap around myself trying to keep warm. My small jacket doesn't do much help. "Sam," I call out his name. My voice cracks and the light goes out. The moon casts a silver glow through the barred window and rests on my back. "Sam!" I feel so alone; so scared, I have nowhere to move because I have just come from one way, and the only way out is barricaded. But I can't, go back out into the open. That thing is chasing me. It runs leaning to the left, arms hanging down, and it seems to have a limp. It is very fast though. One moment it could be at the other side of the building and the next it can be right down the hallway. It can sense fear, and right now I am an easy target, so I slowly slip into the darkness and stare into the blackness hoping to see the golden glow of the flashlights. "Dean." I slowly let it out as a whisper.
My bones ache, and my head hurts. It has been hours, and I keep hearing things, strange things. This place has been abandoned since 1979 when that... that thing just attacked the patients. I know people tend to sneak in, but they have never gone as far as I have. I am in the west wing, in the last hall, furthest from the exit. Every door and window that I have tried to exit from is barred, or chained. I need to find the front, where I entered. All adrenaline is gone from my body and I am too scared to move. I shake from the cold and the fear, waiting. I lean my head along the wall and just for a second I close my eyes. Everything is quiet; too quiet.
When I awaken I look into a bright yellow light shining in my eyes. At first I think of a cop, they have found me, but then I use my hand to shield my eyes and then I see it. The man standing in the background is tall, with a bit longer light brown hair that covers his ears. His hands are on a loaded gun pointed down the hall. It's Sam. The light is removed from my eyes and what I see is the orange glow from the sunrise on Dean's face. He has short dark brown hair, a strong build and barely reaches over 6', but he is still much taller than I am. I am 5'2", with long black hair. My eyes are a piercing amber color but still have a softness to them. The sound of a gunshot makes me jolt from my thoughts. Sam lowers his gun. By now I have covered my head and curled up on the ground. My eyes shut tightly. I feel myself being lifted and carried. I do not dare open my eyes to see anything.
"Sarah," Sam's voice is calming. "We're outside." I had my face buried in Dean's jacket and I hadn't realized were we were. I see the fence and as I get set down I realize how dizzy, hungry, and sleep deprived I am. I wobble a bit, but quickly regain what little strength I have left and walk to the jet black 67' Chevy Impala. I climb into the back seat and look around. Water, I want water. My throat is so dry and sore, I just want some water. Without even talking the two of them seem to know exactly what I want and I get handed what was left of the small bottle Sam bought from the gas station the night before last. I lean back and stare out the window.
Dean continues to check on me as he drives down the road. I shake and he just stares at me with a piercing gaze, concerned. Hard to believe that he actually cares. I slowly pull his jacket more around me and sleep. The snow falls fiercely outside my window as he drives.
This is the prologue to my first fiction on this new profile.. I can't wait to write more!!
